All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is a group of Autonomous Public Medical Colleges under the jurisdiction of the Government of India’s Department of Health and Family Welfare. These institutes were recognized as institutes of national importance by parliamentary resolution.

AIIMS New Delhi, the institute’s forerunner, was founded in 1956. Since then, 24 more institutes have been announced. As of January 2023, 20 institutes are operational, and four more s are expected to be operational by 2025.Six other AIIMS were proposed. It is considered to be the pioneer healthcare facility in South Asia.
