The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh was established in February 2009 under Phase II Pradhan Mantri Sawasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) at an approved cost of Rs. 823 crores. The state government has agreed to make 148 hectares of land available.
On August 13, 2013, a journal announcement was published establishing the All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Rae Bareli. The Government of Uttar Pradesh transferred 97 acres of land from the ,148 acres already agreed with the central government in July 2013 to establish AIIMS Rae Bareli.
The remaining 51 hectares of land have been purchased from the State Government and are expected to be available in due course. The Ministry appointed M/s HSCC (India) Ltd as Project Management Consultant in July 2013. Ministry of Health and Health. Family Welfare (MOH&FW) to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh as Mentor of AIIMS Institute, Raebareli.
The director of PGIMER has been given the additional duties of the director of AIIMS, Raebareli. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Raebareli was established as an Autonomous Institution and Institute of National Importance by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Act passed in 2013.
