Sheth Ranchhodlal Chhotalal was appointed first District President by the British Government on September 15, 1885.The Republic Municipality was incorporated on April 1, 1915 and Rao Bahadur Bhaishankar Nanabhai became the first elected President of the Municipality. Ahmedabad Municipality was established in 1925.
The 100th anniversary of the Ahmedabad Municipality was celebrated in 1935. In 1950, the Municipality of Ahmedabad was established and a Mayor was appointed in place of the President. The honor of being the last president and first mayor goes to Sheth Chinubhai Chimanlal.The central hall of the Municipal Corporation was called “Gandhi Hall”. and the company’s administrative building was called “Sardar Patel Bhavan”.
