The Public Service Commission of the PA was established on November 1, 1956 with the establishment of Andhra Pradesh. Previously there was the Andhra Civil Service Commission in Andhra State and the Hyderabad Civil Service Commission in Hyderabad State.

The Andhra Services Commission was only established in 1953 after the composite state of Madras was split into the states of Andhra and Madras. On the eve of the establishment of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Service Commission, the Andhra Civil Service Commission consisted of a chairman and two members and the Hyderabad Civil Service Commission consisted of one member.

To this end, the Public Administration Commission was set up with a President and three members. As the workload increased, the government increased its membership to five in 1981 and to a president and seven members in 1983.The government revised the strength again in 1994, increasing it to a president and 9 members. This is the current strength.
