Since inception, elevan new revenue districts viz., Sukma, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Bijapur, Balod, Bemetara, Gariyaband, Balodabajar, Mungeli, Surajpur & Balrampur have been carved out to supplement the administrative efficacy, making a total of 27 districts in the State.

Shri SM Shukla, IPS, the first Director General of Police took pride in bringing up the infant PHQ, Shri OP Rathor, IPS, the 5th DG Police, with eight long years of experience in the United Nations, contributed a lot besides being instrumental in establishing a ‘Counter Terrorism & Jungle Warfare’ School at Kanker.
The 6th Director General, Shri Vishwaranjan, IPS added new dimensions to the Chhattisgarh police ushering in the era of police modernization and all-around professionalism. His extensive experience of serving the Intelligence Bureau for more than 20 years helped the state manifold.

Other DGsP namely Shri RLS Yadav (2nd DGP), Shri VK Das (3rd DGP) and Shri Ashok Darbari (4th DGP), Shri Anil M Navaney (7th DGP), Shri Ram Niwas (8th DGP) also helped in overcoming the initial problems of the department.
