KAU Recruitment 2023 – 81 Asst Professor Posts Apply Online IndGovtjobs

The history of agricultural education in Kerala dates back to 1896 when a program was developed in the former state of Travancore to train several young men in scientific farming at the demonstration farm at Karamana, Thiruvananthapuram, now the Crop Systems Research Center of Kerala Agricultural University , to train . Agriculture was introduced as an optional subject in the state college classes in 1922 when the Agricultural High School was established in Aluva, Ernakulam District .

The popularity and usefulness of this school led to the establishment of similar institutions in Kottarakkara in 1928 and Konni in 1931. Agriculture was introduced in 1953 as an option in the middle course. In 1955 the Travancore-Cochin government established the College of Agriculture and Research Institute at Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram and the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Mannuthy, Thrissur to offer higher education in agricultural and veterinary sciences respectively.

These institutions were each under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. With the establishment of the state of Kerala in 1956, these two colleges were affiliated with the University of Kerala. Postgraduate studies leading to the title Master. Kothari, then chairman of the university scholarship committee, an agricultural university was established in each country.

State Universities of Agriculture (SAU) were established in India as an integral part of the national agricultural research system to give a much-needed boost to agricultural education and research in the country.Accordingly, Kerala Agricultural University (AU) was established by Act 33 of 1971 on February 24, 1971 and began operations on February 1, 1972.
