Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), Singrauli is a major player in meeting the energy needs of the country. NCL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited, Ministry of Coal, Government of India and a Mini Ratna (class I) company since 2007. NCL operates with the primary objective of producing coal with social upliftment, sustainability and environmental improvement in mind. It is an ISO 9001:2015, ISO 1 001:2015, ISO 5001:2018 certified company.

The main products of the organization are non-coking coal for classes G5-G13, as well as de-shale Coal and Coal Rejects. Approximately 86% of the coal produced is directed to the electricity sector. NCL’s share of the country’s total coal production is approximately 15%, ie. approximately 10% of the total electricity production. MDL shipyards were founded in the 18th century. Ownership of the shipyards went to the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company and the British-India Steam Navigation Company, among others. Later, “Mazagon Dock Limited” was registered as a limited company in 193 .

The shipyard was nationalized in 1960 and is now a public sector enterprise of the Government of India. Vice Admiral Narayan Prasad, AVSM, NM, IN (Retd), is the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. The retired naval officer assumed his current post on December 30, 2019. NCL was established in November 1985 from Central Coalfields Ltd. mined Singraul Coalfield, headquartered in Singraul, Madhya Pradesh. The area of ​​Singraul coal mine is about 2202 square kilometers. The coal mine can be divided into two basins, viz. Moher sub-basin (312 sq km) and Singraul main basin (1890 sq km).

NCL has a total coal reserve of 10.06 billion tonnes (Bt) (6.83 Bt in the Moher sub-area and 3.23 Bt in the main basin). A major part of Moher subdivision is located in Singraul district of Madhya Pradesh and a small part in Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. All of NCL’s coal mining operations are currently concentrated in the Moher sub-region across 10 open pits. The Singraul main basin is located in the western part of the coalfield and is largely unexplored.

NCL has 10 open pit mines using coal (sub-bituminous coal i.e. non-coking coal in grades G5 to G-13) with (i) Shovel-dumper combination and (ii) surface. miner Currently, NCL has 1239 units under production. “We are proud to be the largest contributor to the country’s economy, industrial growth, exports and the attractiveness of direct investments.
