National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. The company promotes, surveys, establishes, designs, constructs, manages, maintains and upgrades national highways and strategic roads, including connecting roads in parts of the country that share international borders with neighboring countries.

Thus, better regional connectivity would facilitate cross-border trade and help secure India’s international borders. This would lead to the formation of a more unified and economically consolidated South and Southeast Asia. In addition, it would be of general economic benefit to the local population and would help integrate remote areas more strongly into the mainstream.
