Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is an Indian public sector company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is 100% owned by the Government of India and is responsible for generating electricity from nuclear power. NPCIL is administered by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

NPCIL was incorporated in September 1 under the Companies Act 1956“to providefor the design, construction, operation and maintenance of nuclear power stations for the production of electricity in accordance with the plans and programs of the Government of India under the provisions of the Energy Act 1962.” All dated Company operated nuclear power plants are ISO14001 certified (environmental management system).

NPCIL was the only company responsible for the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants in India until the establishment of BHAVINI Vidyut Nigam in October 2003. As of August 10,2012, the Company had 21 operational nuclear reactors at seven sites,including a total installed capacity of 6,780 MWe.[5][6] After the government’s decision to let private companies supply nuclear power, the company faced problems with “poaching”by private companies. its employees.
