RRC Eastern Railway Recruitment 2023 – 3115 Act Apprentice Posts Apply Online IndGovtjobs

On August 15, 185 , the first train of the East Indian Railway (EIR) traveled from Howrah to Hooghly, a distance of 2 miles. From that day, regular services were launched, stopping at Bally, Serampore and Chandannagore. In 1862, the EIR expanded to the west bank of the Yamuna on its way to Delhi. In 186 , trains began running between the two cities without a bridge over the Yamuna when Calcutta and Delhi were to be connected by ferrying coaches across the river in boats at Allahabad.

In 1865, the Yamuna Bridge at Allahabad was inaugurated. In 1867, the EIR branch line extended from Allahabad to Jubbalpore. When the Government of India took over the EIR in 1925, it was divided into six divisions – Howrah, Asansol and Dinapore, known as the Lower Division, and Allahabad, Lucknow and Moradabad, known as the Upper Division.

The Eastern Railway (ER) was formed on 1 April 1952 by amalgamating the East Indian Railway (EIR) consisting of Sealdah, Howrah, Asansol and Danapur sections and the entire Bengal-Nagpur Railway (BNR). The jurisdiction of the ER extended from Howrah to Mughalsarain in the north, Visakhapatnam in the south and Nagpur in the center.

The Northern Railway added three overhead sections of the E.I.R. Sections of the BNR from Howrah to Visakhapatnam in the south, from Howrah to Nagpur in the central region and to Katni in the north-central region were later separated from the Eastern Railway and formed as “South Eastern Railway” from 1 August 1955. Asansol Division was formed in 1925, Dhanbad Division in 196 , Mughulsarai Division in 1975 and Malda Division in 198 as part of ER.

After redistribution and construction of new tracks, the Eastern Railway was 2 5.61 kilometers long on 30.9.2002. 1.10.2002 three departments viz. Dhanbad, Mughalsarai and Danapur were separated from the Eastern Railway to create a new East Central Railway zone with headquarters at Hajipur. As of October 2019, Eastern Railway consists of 2,815 route kilometers divided into four sections viz. Sealdah, Howrah, Asansoland Malda out of which 2118 route kilometers are electrified with 25 KV AC traction.
