Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (Uttar Pradesh Lōk Sēvā Āyōg), often abbreviated as UPPSC, is an agency of the state of Uttar Pradesh which recruits all entry-level appointments of various Group A and Group B civil servants in Uttar Pradesh. The charter of the agency is given by the Constitution of India. Articles 315 to 323 of Part XIV of the Constitution, authorized Services under the Union and the States, provide a Public Service Commission for the Union and each State.

History The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) was established on 1 April 1937 with the main objective of recruiting candidates for various services in the state. The Commission is governed by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Regulations, 1976. Origin Indianization of the higher civil service became one of the main demands of the political movement, which forced the British Indian government to consider the creation of a civil service commission for recruitment within its territory.

The Government of India Act of 1935 provided for the formation of Civil Service Commissions at the provincial level for the first time. The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission was established on 1 April 1937 with its headquarters at Allahabad. The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission is also governed by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Ordinance, 1976.
