The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (Uttar Pradesh Lōk Sēvā Āyōg), commonly abbreviated as UPPSC, is the agency of Uttar Pradesh for the recruitment of all applicants for entry-level positions in the various A and B grade civil services of ‘Uttar Pradesh. The charter of the agency is granted by the constitution of India.

Sections 315 through 323 of Part XIV of the Constitution, entitled “Services within the Union and States,” provide for a Civil Service Commission for the Union and of each State. Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) was established on April 1, 1937 with the main purpose of recruiting candidates for various services in the state. The Commission is governed by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Regulations 1976.

The Origin The Indianization of high public office became a major demand of the political movement, forcing the British-Indian government to consider setting up a Civil Service Commission to recruit its services in the area. The Indian Government Act of 1935 provided for the first Provincial Civil Service Commission. The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission was established on April 1, 1937 with its seat at Allahabad. The workings of the Uttar Pradesh Civil Service Commission are also governed by the Uttar Pradesh Civil Service Commission Regulations 1976.
