The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, abbreviated as SGPC in Sri Amritsar and called the Sikh Mini-Parliament, is directly elected by the Sikh Sangat, i. General of Punjab on July 28, 1925First published in the Punjab Gazette on 7 August 1925 AD .

This Act came into effect on 1 November 1925 after its Official Notice No.4288-S dated 12 October 1925 AD After the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in June 1839 the decline of the Sikh Empire began and finally survived until March 1849 when A.D. when the British government took office in Punjab. To take over Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, the British government first appointed a ‘Principal Administrator’; (Sarabraah) by the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Amritsar and the Gurdwara government’s efforts to establish Christianity in Punjab began to prevail.

Slowly, believing Sikhs began to turn away from the Guru Ghars and during British rule the administration of the Gurdwaras passed into the hands of the Udasi Mahants and these leaders played into the hands of the ruling power.

To remedy the deteriorating management of the Gurdwaras, the vigilant or knowledgeable Gursikhs organized themselves to consolidate power and ability and formed the Singh Sabha Lehar (movement) and the chief Khalsa Diwan.With these developments, Sikhs started the Gurdwara reform movement to improve governance in the Gurdwaras.
