Guru Angad Dev Ji (March 31, 1504 – March 29, 1552) was the second of ten Sikh gurus. He was born to a Hindu family named Lehna in the village of Harike (now Sarae Naga, near Muktsar) in the northwestern Indian subcontinent.

Bhai Lehna grew up in a Khatri (Kshatriya, traditional warrior) family, his father was a small trader, he himself worked as a pujari (priest) and religion teacher who focused on the goddess Durga. He met Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism and became the th Sikh.

He has served and worked with Guru Nanak for many years.Guru Nanak gave the name Angad to Bhai Lehna, he chose Angad as the second Sikh guru instead of his own sons. After the death of Guru Nanak in 1539, Guru Angad led the Sikh tradition. In Sikhism he is known for adopting and formalizing the Gurmukhi alphabet from pre-existing Indo-European scripts such as Tankre from the Himalayan region.

He started collecting Nanak hymns and wrote 62 or 63 hymns himself. Instead of his own son, he chose Amar Das as his successor and third guru of Vaishnava Hindu-Sikhism.
