To meet the growing demand for manpower in the field of technology, the then Delhi administration approved the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. India established a new engineering college called Delhi Institute of Technology (DIT) in July 1983. In 1983, the institute started an academic program in Electronics and Communication Technology at the UG level with 5 students from the Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi.
Later, new programs were added in the fields of information technology, instrumentation and control technology, and manufacturing process and automation technology. Administrative autonomy was granted to the institute in 1986. The Institute was registered as a society in the name of Delhi Institute of Technology (DIT) on 12 June 1 under the Societies Registration Act No. XXI 1860 (Registration No. S-177 2 from 1 ). The institute started a Ph.D. programs in 1989 and also designed several PG programs, four of which were approved by AICTE in 199 .
The Institute was and is affiliated to Delhi University for all its UG, PG and Ph.D. programs. From 1983 to 1998, the institute operated in its old campus in the old I.G. Block, Kashmere Gate, Delhi – 110006. The Institute was formally inaugurated at its new campus in Dwarka, New Delhi on 23 January 1997 by Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India. The institute was renamed as “Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology” (NSIT) in 1997 vide Gazette Notification No. D. L. – 33002/97, 20.02.1997.
Regarding the Delhi Gazette published on Thursday, 27 September 2018 vide No. F. 1 (7)/LA-2015/PF-III/SB(2018)/2017. – In exercise of the powers under sub-section (())(1) of the Delhi Netaji Subhas University of Technology Act, 2017 (DELHI ACT 06 of 2018) under section 3, the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi here .designates the date of designation of the University as September 26, 2018. will be established as the Netaji Subhas University of Technology.
The Netaji Subhas Technical University of Delhi Act, 2017 (DELHI ACT 06 of 2018) (An Act passed by the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi on 10 August 2017) An Act to establish the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology in the unaffiliated . Netaji Subhas Technical University to provide education and research in engineering, in the fields of technology, science, humanities, social sciences and management and to promote learning and dissemination of knowledge in these fields and any other matters related or related thereto;
